A Glimpse of the King

Christ the King, Lisbon

The King is coming,
all is in place.
God takes his seat,
the holy,
mighty,
fiery God;
ready.

We wait
to see
what he will do?
What will happen?
What will become of the world?
Now we will see.

And then we do see,
the Son of Man,
God
in humanity,
crowned as God,
coming.

The king is coming
Am I ready?

The King is Coming

Daniel 7:9-10, 13-14 (CEV)

Judgment

Daniel wrote:

9 Thrones were set up
    while I was watching,
and the Eternal God
    took his place.
His clothing and his hair
    were white as snow.
His throne was a blazing fire
    with fiery wheels,
10 and flames were dashing out
    from all around him.
Countless thousands
were standing there
    to serve him.
The time of judgment began,
    and the books were opened.

13 As I continued to watch the vision that night,

I saw what looked like
    a son of man
coming with the clouds of heaven,
and he was presented
    to the Eternal God.
14 He was crowned king
    and given power and glory,
so that all people
of every nation and race
    would serve him.
He will rule forever,
and his kingdom is eternal,
    never to be destroyed.

Trouble Ahead

Such things of beauty,
strong,
robust,
glittering

apparently.

One day
they will be gone,
not able
to stand
what will happen,
the events that are coming,
bigger than them.

When will that be?
When will they come?
How can we know
what is the end,
or just a pause?
How can we be ready?

Don’t listen
to those who think they know,
who bandy about dates,
claim to read the signs.
They don’t matter.
what does
is to be ready,
ever,
always
for your day
to meet God.

When he comes
make sure
you are looking
at what matters,
and not what doesn’t.

Don’t get distracted
thinking only of The End,
don’t confuse it
with what is
just the beginning of the end.

There will be troubles,
but don’t get carried away,
troubles are a part of life
not necessarily a sign.

Hold tight,
God is coming.
exactly when
we don’t know,
but come he will.

What seems important now
will be gone,
live in that thought

Mark 13:1-8 (CEV)

The Temple Will Be Destroyed

13 As Jesus was leaving the temple, one of his disciples said to him, “Teacher, look at these beautiful stones and wonderful buildings!”

2 Jesus replied, “Do you see these huge buildings? They will certainly be torn down! Not one stone will be left in place.”

Warning about Trouble

3 Later, as Jesus was sitting on the Mount of Olives across from the temple, Peter, James, John, and Andrew came to him in private. 4 They asked, “When will these things happen? What will be the sign that they are about to take place?”

5 Jesus answered:

Watch out and don’t let anyone fool you! 6 Many will come and claim to be me. They will use my name and fool many people.

7 When you hear about wars and threats of wars, don’t be afraid. These things will have to happen first, but that isn’t the end. 8 Nations and kingdoms will go to war against each other. There will be earthquakes in many places, and people will starve to death. But this is just the beginning of troubles.

Nothing You Can Do

Try as we might
we can never
get rid of
what’s wrong:
what we’ve done,
said,
thought,
not done…

We try,
we strive,
but they remain,
the scars are visible,
the debris piles up,
the effects rumble on.

The only one
who can make a difference
is Christ.

He offers,
not just a fresh start,
a clean slate,
but a whole new way to be:
we will know
and understand
his ways,
get it
and realise how to live.
Our hearts will be changed
God will forget
what we did before,
we will be starting again.

Jesus has done it!
There’s nothing more
for us to do,
except cling to his way,
live it out
in the way he has shown us.
Hold on to him
an to one another
together
we will make it through
with him.

Hebrews 10:11-25 (CEV)

11 The priests do their work each day, and they keep on offering sacrifices that can never take away sins. 12 But Christ offered himself as a sacrifice that is good forever. Now he is sitting at God’s right side, 13 and he will stay there until his enemies are put under his power. 14 By his one sacrifice he has forever set free from sin the people he brings to God.

15 The Holy Spirit also speaks of this by telling us that the Lord said,

16 “When the time comes,
I will make an agreement
    with them.
I will write my laws
    on their minds and hearts.
17 Then I will forget
    about their sins
and no longer remember
    their evil deeds.”

18 When sins are forgiven, there is no more need to offer sacrifices.

Encouragement and Warning

19 My friends, the blood of Jesus gives us courage to enter the most holy place 20 by a new way that leads to life! And this way takes us through the curtain that is Christ himself.

21 We have a great high priest who is in charge of God’s house. 22 So let’s come near God with pure hearts and a confidence that comes from having faith. Let’s keep our hearts pure, our consciences free from evil, and our bodies washed with clean water. 23 We must hold tightly to the hope that we say is ours. After all, we can trust the one who made the agreement with us. 24 We should keep on encouraging each other to be thoughtful and to do helpful things. 25 Some people have gotten out of the habit of meeting for worship, but we must not do that. We should keep on encouraging each other, especially since you know that the day of the Lord’s coming is getting closer.
