Don’t Just Sit There #Advent

How long Lord,
how much
must we suffer?
Don’t sit and watch,
so something.

Something to relieve suffering,
stop punishment,
halt destruction,
please.

The time is coming
my time,
the right time,
a good time;
what I have said
will happen,
what I have promised
will come true.
it may seem interminable
to you,
but wait,
hang on,
cling to me
for my promise is true.

A time will come,
when this will end.

I promise.

The theme of the first week in Advent is The Day of the Lord.  We look forward to the coming of that day.

Habakkuk 1:12-2:4 (CEV)

Habakkuk Complains Again

12 Holy Lord God, mighty rock,
you are eternal,
    and we are safe from death.
You are using those Babylonians
    to judge and punish others.
13 But you can’t stand sin or wrong.
So don’t sit by in silence
    while they gobble down people
who are better than they are.

14 The people you put on this earth
are like fish or reptiles
    without a leader.
15 Then an enemy comes along
and takes them captive
    with hooks and nets.
It makes him so happy
16 that he offers sacrifices
    to his fishing nets,
because they make him rich
    and provide choice foods.
17 Will he keep hauling in his nets
and destroying nations
    without showing mercy?

The Lord Answers Habakkuk Again

2 While standing guard
    on the watchtower,
I waited for the Lord’s answer,
before explaining the reason
    for my complaint.
2 Then the Lord told me:
“I will give you my message
    in the form of a vision.
Write it clearly enough
    to be read at a glance.
3 At the time I have decided,
    my words will come true.
You can trust what I say
    about the future.
It may take a long time,
but keep on waiting—
    it will happen!

4 “I, the Lord, refuse to accept
    anyone who is proud.
Only those who live by faith
    are acceptable to me.”

Come #Advent

The Lamb of God,
here,
living,
walking
among us.

The Lamb of God
come and see.

Come and see
what I am about,
what I am showing you,
who I am revealing.

Come,
see,
you have found the Messiah.

He is here among us,
waiting for us to come to him,
know him,
know God through him.

He is waiting for you,
for me,
to come to him.

This Advent
may I come to you,
discover you,
and go with you

John 1:35-42 (CEV)

The First Disciples of Jesus

35 The next day, John was there again, and two of his followers were with him. 36 When he saw Jesus walking by, he said, “Here is the Lamb of God!” 37 John’s two followers heard him, and they went with Jesus.

38 When Jesus turned and saw them, he asked, “What do you want?”

They answered, “Rabbi, where do you live?” The Hebrew word “Rabbi” means “Teacher.”

39 Jesus replied, “Come and see!” It was already about four o’clock in the afternoon when they went with him and saw where he lived. So they stayed on for the rest of the day.

40 One of the two men who had heard John and had gone with Jesus was Andrew, the brother of Simon Peter. 41 The first thing Andrew did was to find his brother and tell him, “We have found the Messiah!” The Hebrew word “Messiah” means the same as the Greek word “Christ.”

42 Andrew brought his brother to Jesus. And when Jesus saw him, he said, “Simon son of John, you will be called Cephas.” This name can be translated as “Peter.”

Strange Things

Strange things are happening,
things we fear,
things that seem odd,
events we don’t understand.

What do we do?
Panic?
Worry?
Search the internet
for answers?
See what the newspapers say?

Or do we stand
as God’s people
and wait
for what he is going to do?

We pray,
as every day
for the Kingdom to come
and to be ready when it does
whenever that is.

Luke 21:25-36 (CEV)

When the Son of Man Appears

25 Strange things will happen to the sun, moon, and stars. The nations on earth will be afraid of the roaring sea and tides, and they won’t know what to do. 26 People will be so frightened that they will faint because of what is happening to the world. Every power in the sky will be shaken.  27 Then the Son of Man will be seen, coming in a cloud with great power and glory. 28 When all of this starts happening, stand up straight and be brave. You will soon be set free.

A Lesson from a Fig Tree

29 Then Jesus told them a story:

When you see a fig tree or any other tree 30 putting out leaves, you know that summer will soon come. 31 So, when you see these things happening, you know that God’s kingdom will soon be here. 32 You can be sure that some of the people of this generation will still be alive when all of this takes place. 33 The sky and the earth won’t last forever, but my words will.

A Warning

34 Don’t spend all of your time thinking about eating or drinking or worrying about life. If you do, the final day will suddenly catch you 35 like a trap. That day will surprise everyone on earth. 36 Watch out and keep praying that you can escape all that is going to happen and that the Son of Man will be pleased with you.
