Stone soup

I was reminded yesterday of the story of  stone soup I love that story.  It reminds me that anyone has something to “bring to the pot”.  Whoever we are, wherever we’ve been or haven’t been, we have something to contribute to the life and fulfilment of others, something that adds to the whole and makes it better.

Let’s talk about it

Something I’ve believed for a long time, and over the weekend it’s come together twice.  Last Friday we met for ‘Folk who do lunch and talk about God’, where we actually sat down together over delicious soup – and of course cake – and talked.  About our lives, our life journeys, where God is and has been in them, and generally just shared together.

Then yesterday, the Preacher also chose to share some of their life story.

I find that really encouraging to hear wher others have been and where it’s brought them – and not just because I’m nosy!  Thinking about it, the bible is full of “people’s stories”.  It’s the journal of people’s life experiences, and where God was with them and what he was saying.  We can all relate to other people life stories, even if we don’t “do theology”.  So let’s talk more together.  Then we can support and encourage each other along the way.

Passion Sunday

This coming Sunday is Passion Sunday.  The dictionary tells me that Passion is the narrative of Christ’s sufferings as recorded in the gospels, but I can’t find anywhere that tells me why it’s called The Passion!  Perhaps it’s no coincidence, because Jesus suffering on the cross is because of his passion for us.  His pure, extravagant love for each and every one of us, and his desire that we can be right with God.

But what about our passion for God?  One of Sunday’s set readings is Jeremiah 31:31-34.  God promises a new relationship with his people.  He promises, “I will be their God, and they will be my people.”  He keeps his side of the agreement.  What about us?  Do we strive to be God’s people?  Do we remember that we are his people – that he is our God.  Are we passionate about God and give him his place in our life?

I have a passion for cake.  I think about it.  I persue it.  I study it.  I want to experience it.  I talk to others about it. And God??

He’s there for me
