Come #Advent

With His Disciples029

The Lamb of God,
here,
living,
walking
among us.

The Lamb of God
come and see.

Come and see
what I am about,
what I am showing you,
who I am revealing.

Come,
see,
you have found the Messiah.

He is here among us,
waiting for us to come to him,
know him,
know God through him.

He is waiting for you,
for me,
to come to him.

This Advent
may I come to you,
discover you,
and go with you

John 1:35-42 (CEV)

The First Disciples of Jesus

35 The next day, John was there again, and two of his followers were with him. 36 When he saw Jesus walking by, he said, “Here is the Lamb of God!” 37 John’s two followers heard him, and they went with Jesus.

38 When Jesus turned and saw them, he asked, “What do you want?”

They answered, “Rabbi, where do you live?” The Hebrew word “Rabbi” means “Teacher.”

39 Jesus replied, “Come and see!” It was already about four o’clock in the afternoon when they went with him and saw where he lived. So they stayed on for the rest of the day.

40 One of the two men who had heard John and had gone with Jesus was Andrew, the brother of Simon Peter. 41 The first thing Andrew did was to find his brother and tell him, “We have found the Messiah!” The Hebrew word “Messiah” means the same as the Greek word “Christ.”

42 Andrew brought his brother to Jesus. And when Jesus saw him, he said, “Simon son of John, you will be called Cephas.” This name can be translated as “Peter.”

Jesus Let Us Come to Know You

Which Choice?

A new place,
a new way of living,
a new way to be.
Decisions, decisions.

How will I live
in this strange place?

Do I bring what I know,
trust
and have always followed,
the God who has always
walked with me?

Or will I be distracted
by all that is on offer here?

I’ve got to make a choice –
to follow God
or not,
to worship him
or not,
to live his way
or not.

A choice to make
today,
every day.

Who will I worship?
Who will I follow?
Who will be my God?

What choice will I make?

Joshua 24:1-2, 14-18 (MSG)

The Covenant at Shechem

24 1-2 Joshua called together all the tribes of Israel at Shechem. He called in the elders, chiefs, judges, and officers. They presented themselves before God. Then Joshua addressed all the people:

“This is what God, the God of Israel, says: A long time ago your ancestors, Terah and his sons Abraham and Nahor, lived to the east of the River Euphrates. They worshiped other gods.

14 “So now: Fear God. Worship him in total commitment. Get rid of the gods your ancestors worshiped on the far side of The River (the Euphrates) and in Egypt. You, worship God.

15 “If you decide that it’s a bad thing to worship God, then choose a god you’d rather serve—and do it today. Choose one of the gods your ancestors worshiped from the country beyond The River, or one of the gods of the Amorites, on whose land you’re now living. As for me and my family, we’ll worship God.”

16 The people answered, “We’d never forsake God! Never! We’d never leave God to worship other gods.

17-18 God is our God! He brought up our ancestors from Egypt and from slave conditions. He did all those great signs while we watched. He has kept his eye on us all along the roads we’ve traveled and among the nations we’ve passed through. Just for us he drove out all the nations, Amorites and all, who lived in the land.

“Count us in: We too are going to worship God. He’s our God.”

Captain of Israel’s host, and Guide
Of all who seek the land above,
Beneath Thy shadow we abide,
The cloud of Thy protecting love;
Our strength, Thy grace; our rule, Thy Word;
Our end, the glory of the Lord.

By Thine unerring Spirit led,
We shall not in the desert stray;
We shall not full direction need
Nor miss our providential way;
As far from danger as from fear,
While Love, almighty Love, is near.

How Far?

How far Lord?
How long,
before
I stop?

How far must I run?
How long must I go,
before I let you speak?
Allow you to feed me?

How long
will I go on,
providing my own solutions,
instead of seeking yours?

How far will I go
in my blind panic,
before checking in with you?

Thank you
that however far,
however long,
you come to me,
wake me,
feed me
and take me on
to your place
of presence.

May I
wake,
eat
and walk
with you

O Lead Me

1 Kings 19:4-8 (CEV)

4  Elijah then walked another whole day into the desert. Finally, he came to a large bush and sat down in its shade. He begged the Lord, “I’ve had enough. Just let me die! I’m no better off than my ancestors.” Then he lay down in the shade and fell asleep.

Suddenly an angel woke him up and said, “Get up and eat.” Elijah looked around, and by his head was a jar of water and some baked bread. He sat up, ate and drank, then lay down and went back to sleep.

Soon the Lord’s angel woke him again and said, “Get up and eat, or else you’ll get too tired to travel.” So Elijah sat up and ate and drank.

The food and water made him strong enough to walk forty more days. At last, he reached Mount Sinai, the mountain of God,
