#adventbookclub 2014

Yes, I know it’s only August and anyone who mentions the C word should be severely dealt with!  But, in an attempt to get organised, and because I saw this book and liked the look of it, I have chosen what my Advent book will be.  As usual I will be blogging my reflections here and you are very welcome to join in, in whichever way suits you best.

I have chosen Walking Backwards to Christmas by Stephen Cottrell from SPCK (and thanks to Claire for her help)

partly because I have enjoyed other books written by Stephen Cottrell, and I loved the strapline,

For those who thought they knew the story well

This book takes a slightly different approach.  It is not a reading for every day, but eleven chapters, which may suit some people better.  By my reckoning that is three a week, but anyone can share their thoughts as they read at their own pace.

I intend to continue the Adventbookclub Facebook page and #adventbookclub on Twitter for conversation and shared reflection.

I would love anyone to join me.  Last year it worked really well as a shared journey through Advent together.

Once you’ve bought the book, I promise I won’t mention Christm*s or Advent again 🙂

  1. Excellent – I have ordered a copy of the book (supporting my local independent bookshop!) – and look forward to participating again! Life got in the way of Lenten blogging, but hoping Advent is more blessed.

    • Hurrah! Life has a habit of getting in the way – hence why I’m trying to sort things now! And hurrah for local independent book shops 🙂

  2. I know we shouldn’t do this but I rather enjoy the cover. Will attempt to join in as best I can once it’s ordered from my local bookshop. Thanks you.

    • I love the cover too! Stephen speaks about it in the introduction. Look forward to you joining us in any way you can 🙂

  3. Was I the only one expecting it to be walking backwards for Christmas across the Irish Sea?

Really looking forward to reading it, and not the Goons version. Jx

    • You’re not the first person to mention that! I’m pleading age on never having heard of it 😉
Looking forward to having you along
