What if?

This song asks, “What if God were one of us?…”

This reading answers that question.

Because it’s not, ‘what if’, it’s ‘God is’ one of us.

GOD IS ONE OF US

The one that was with God in the beginning, who was there with him when God made the world, has come to live in the world. His lives as one of us, he lives as God among us.

God became a human being.  He’s now shining his light in the world.

God doesn’t direct from afar, but has come to be with us, to show us his life and his love; to show us how to live his life.

That stranger on the bus is God. He is here where we are.  He knows what living a human life is.  He is at our desk; in the shop; in our home; walking the street alongside us; sitting with the hurting, the lonely, the lost.

GOD IS ONE OF US

And because he’s come – we too can be God’s children.  That is what God longs for and he has made it possible.  His coming into the world has shown us what God is like – so it is possible for us to understand.

As this new year turns, do we welcome God to journey into it with us?  How amazing is it that God, who can do anything he wants, chooses to come and live among us!  Where will we see him?  How will we respond to him?

Thank you Lord, that you left your life in heaven, gave all that up to come and be with us.

Thank you that you are with us everywhere we go,

Thank you for being one of us.

Help us to remember you are here

And to follow the way you lead us.
