Passion Sunday
This coming Sunday is Passion Sunday. The dictionary tells me that Passion is the narrative of Christ’s sufferings as recorded in the gospels, but I can’t find anywhere that tells me why it’s called The Passion! Perhaps it’s no coincidence, because Jesus suffering on the cross is because of his passion for us. His pure, extravagant love for each and every one of us, and his desire that we can be right with God.
But what about our passion for God? One of Sunday’s set readings is Jeremiah 31:31-34. God promises a new relationship with his people. He promises, “I will be their God, and they will be my people.” He keeps his side of the agreement. What about us? Do we strive to be God’s people? Do we remember that we are his people – that he is our God. Are we passionate about God and give him his place in our life?
I have a passion for cake. I think about it. I persue it. I study it. I want to experience it. I talk to others about it. And God??
He’s there for me
